One heart
Jessica Simpson blabbed to Elle about her dynamic love life and new country album. One song on the album, “Remember That,” describes an abusive relationship, which Jessica said she can relate to.
“The only way I know how to sing is from life experience,” she told Elle. “I don’t want to talk about it, but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run.”
Huh? I’m struggling to make sense of this sentence, but let’s focus on the linguistic doozy, to “tell people to take their heart.” Just as soon as Jessica had spit out two plurals, people and their, she jumped to singular, heart, as if all these victims of abuse share one heart.
Jess, come on over to the Grammar Guard. We’ll help you count it out.
