The Terminator Salvation director has fled to the defense of recently-arrested Christian Bale, making a number of assertions somehow intended to undo the reputation damage that results when your mom and sister accuse you of assault. (Bale’s own description of the incident, “a deeply personal matter,” wasn’t particularly helpful.)

“He loves his wife, he loves his child, he loves being an actor,” McG said. And is if that’s not enough to convince disappointed fans, consider this: “He’s not interested in materialist things.”

Apparently McG is not interested in verbal things.

“Materialist” is hindered by a needless suffix. The adjective “material,” being of a physical or worldly nature, stands alone — no “ist” necessary.

Just remember Madonna, a material girl living in a material world.
