Nelly Furtado confirmed that she married sound engineer Demacio “Demo” Castellon July 19. Of marriage, she said, “It’s a nice phase of my life.”

Eek! This doesn’t sound like a convincing demonstration of love for Demo. We’re afraid he just got demoted.

The adjective nice doesn’t exactly ooze enthusiasm. But even more worrisome is the noun Nelly chose. A phase, according to dictionary.com, is a stage in a process of change or development. It’s temporary, sure to end at some point and be followed by another phrase.

That doesn’t bode well for Demo.

Apparently he doesn’t know that Nelly Furtado is like a bird.
