Carefree kids?
by christina in October 28th, 2008
Michelle Obama told Jay Leno last night that her daughters are blissfully unaffected by their dad’s high-profile presidential campaign. She said they “could care less. [When Barack comes home,] they’re like, ‘Let me show you my soccer trophy. I don’t really care what you do.’”
The problem with this linguistic error is that it inverts your meaning. If you could care less, that means you do care — at least a little. It is possible to care less.
If you didn’t care at all, not even one iota, then you couldn’t care less. You’re at rock bottom of interest.
Evidentally, Sasha and Malia are invested in their dad’s campaign — as they should be. Imagine the sweet sleepovers they could throw at the White House.
